Sprint Communications Manager Caroline Semerdjian confirmed with the folks at Phonescoop that that the carrier's current crop of Android smartphones will be updated directly from the 1.5 version to the coveted 2.1 OS in early 2nd quarter of 2010.

"The OTA software update for the Droid by Motorola is TBD. A new date will be communicated as soon as possible. The 3/18 OTA software update will not happen as planned. A new date will be communicated as soon as possible."
