Informa Telecoms and Media report research shows that in the next 5 years, 1 billion fewer smartphones will be sold because of worldwide recession.

"Although growth is forecast to slow in 2009, it is set to pick up again in 2010." - Paul Lambert

The statement of Lambert has been agreed on by another research firm, IDC. They expect a growth in 2010 but in a slower pace, compared to previous or recent years.

It's human nature to compare things. So, in the Consumer Report comparing all the smart phones, it is said that iPhone 3GS took the "top" spot with strong performance. Palm Pre is the iPhone's closest competitor.

The Consumer Report prefers other phones when it comes to messaging. It might be because of the soft virtual keyboard that iPhone have.

Verizon Wireless needs to release to release good phones this year to match the new handsets offered by it's rivals. However, recent leaks and rumors show that Big Red is planning to release a good lineup that can match the offerings of other carriers. Back in April there was word that Rolando 2: Quest for the Golden Orchid would be making its way into the world of iPhone apps, joining its extremely popular brother, Rolando. Finally, three months later, it is now officially available in the App Store. It will cost you $9.99, but is apparently one of the best puzzle/strategy games currently available.

Back in March Acer (a Taiwanese manufacturerer), announced that it would be releasing a handfull of new smartphones, including the Acer X960. The X960 is moderately sized at 4.2 in. x 2.3 in. x .6 in., and the front features a 2.8 in. resistive touch screen, which means that the screen is composed of multiple layers that are separated by thin spaces (and, unfortunately, requires more pressure to activate than a capacitive screen).

AT&T recently announced their plan of a full national launch of the 3G femtocell solution by the end of 2009. However, it appears that Sprint will attempt to be the first to offer full commercial service of a 3G femtocell solution. The company also hinted about offering consumer and enterprise femtocell solutions.

Tired of viewing your email in portrait mode on your Palm Pre device? Now view email in landscape mode by entering a simple hack discovered by a PreCentral tipster. When in the email application enter "RocknRollHax" (case sensitive) on your keyboard and this will allow the landscape mode feature. Word is Palm thought landscape mode would be too buggy for the device so they hid it.  The only problem with this is you have to enter the hack everytime you start up the email application.  Lets see how long this lasts.

With Motorola on its way out and Sony Ericsson having problems, LG became the third largest cellphone maker last year. In an interview to Yonhap news agency, Ahn Seung-kwon, president for LG's mobile business, mentioned that the company plans to become number 2 by 2012. This would mean a battle against Samsung. Will LG win the battle? We have to find out in the future. It's 3 years from now and a lot of things could happen within that time period.
