AT&T TO REQUIRE MESSAGING PLANS FOR FEATURE PHONES

Here's some bad news for AT&T subscribers who want to keep their wireless bill low. The folks at BGR have been informed by their connects that AT&T is planing to require a text/messaging plan with activation for some of its non-smartphone devices. It appears that the minimum monthly cost when purchasing a “Quick Messaging” phone from AT&T is around $20 or a $5 200 SMS/MMS plan and a $15/month unlimited data plan.

This requirement will be enforced at the time of purchase so customers with existing “Quick Messaging” device will not be covered by this new policy.

Here are the AT&T feature phones that will require a messaging plan at time of purchase:

  • Pantech Reveal
  • Pantech Impact
  • Motorola Karma
  • Samsung Flight
  • Samsung Impression
  • Samsung Magnet
  • Samsung Solstice
  • Samsung Mythic
  • Samsung Propel
  • LG Xenon
  • LG Neon
  • LG Vu
