THE IMPRESSIVE SAMSUNG OMNIA II FOR VERIZON WIRELESS

Samsung announced the Omnia II last month to steal a bit of the spot light away from the iPhone 3GS and the Palm Pre. The Samsung Omnia II did not receive as much media exposure as the Pre and the 3GS but this handset can certainly hold its own against the top phones for 2009.

Let's look at the features and specs for the Samsung Omnia II to see how it stacks up against the most heralded phones for this year.

The most noticeable aspect of the Omnia II is the handset's impressive touch-based display. This upcoming Samsung smartphone sports a 3.7 inch AMOLED screen with WVGA resolution and 480 x 800 pixels. This exciting mobile phone features Samsung's TouchWiz 2.0 3D UI which provides multi-tasking convenience and faster, more accurate touch response. This user interface also offers enhanced 3D effects, virtual QWERTY keyboard as well as intuitive tap, sweep, drag and drop operations.

The camera on this phone is quite impressive and more advanced than most of the shooters offered by the market's top smartphones. The Samsung Omnia II carries a powerful 5.0-megapixel CMOS camera with advance imaging features such as auto-focus, zoom, geo-tagging, image stabilizer, video calling, face and smile detection. It also provides DVD-like (480p) video recording and playback.

This upcoming smartphone runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional at launch but can be upgraded to the 6.5 version when the OS becomes available. The Omnia II can provide the look and feel of using a PC with its ability to seamlessly switch between Microsoft Outlook email and productivity applications. It also provides the ability to edit and create MS Office documents such as PowerPoint, Excel and Word.

As expected from a top notch smartphone, the Samsung Omnia II is packed with high-end features. The key features for this upcoming handset include HSUPA 5.76Mbps, HSDPA 7.2Mbps, Wi-Fi,  up to 32GB of storage, GPS(VZ Navigator), stereo Bluetooth, 3D interactive games and 1xEV-DO Rev. A data.

Verizon Wireless is expected to launch the Samsung Omnia II later this year, but the specific date is still unknown. Check out these pics of this upcoming phone:
