MICROSOFT WINDOWS PHONE 8 DETAILS: DUAL CORES, NFC, MICROSD CARD SUPPORT AND MORE

 

Here's an exciting update for Windows Phone fans. The details for the next major software update for Microsoft's smartphone operating system has been published by the folks at PocketNow. It appears that the rumored Apollo OS will be called Windows Phone 8 and will include major changes for the platform. 

The features of the upcoming Windows Phone 8 OS were apparently revealed via a video hosted by Joe Belfiore, the senior vice president and Windows Phone manager.

Here are the highlights of the exposed details of WP8:

  • support for multicore processors, NFC, and MicroSD support for expandable storage
  • support for four different screen resolutions
  • a new, unnamed syncing app and a Xbox Companion application
  • revamped Skype client that enable calls to be similar to non-VoIP telephony
  • simplified porting from Android and iOS
  • support for app-to-app communication
  • native BitLocker encryption
  • DataSmart for reduction and tracking of data usage
