The attention of the mobile phone community has shifted to the new iPhone 4 but Sprint's first WiMAX 4G smartphone has also made waves by setting a new carrier record for first day sales. The Now Network has announced that the HTC EVO 4G has shattered Sprint's records for first day handset sales. Sprint revealed that the HTC EVO 4G outsold the previous two record holders in the Palm Pre and Samsung Instinct. The carrier also managed to sell three times more EVO 4Gs in its first 24 hours of availability, than Pres and Instincts in their first 72 hours of availability combined. Dan Hesse, Sprint CEO comments on the early success of the Android powered 4G smartphone: "HTC EVO 4G is a clear winner for customers with the powerful combination of an amazing multimedia experience in 3G coverage areas that becomes even better in our growing number of 4G markets. It is terrific to see customers react so positively to this device and the innovative experience it brings to them" An impressive start for the HTC EVO 4G but will the launch of Apple's latest iPhone slow it down? Sprint did not reveal the actual numbers but the folks at BGR received a tip that the carrier sold well over 200,000 units of the HTC EVO 4G. |
