SURVEY SAYS PALM PRE WILL BE DOA

Many mobile phone fans feel that the Palm Pre will make huge waves in the mobile phone market. Some have also predicted that the Pre will be the key to the recovery of both Sprint and Palm. However, a survey of 4,292 prospective adult Smartphone buyers conducted by ChangeWave Research indicates that only 4% are interested in purchasing a Palm Pre. In comparison, 37% of the buyers polled are planning to get BlackBerry handsets and 30% are planning to purchase Apple's iPhone. The survey also showed that only 1% are willing to switch carriers to get the Sprint-exclusive Palm Pre.

So does this mean that the Palm Pre will be doomed as soon as it is released? Well, some websites expressed that the ChangeWave Research survey only illustrates a small part of the whole scenario. For instance, the folks at SlashGear pointed out that the survey is limited to adult Smartphone buyers. The Palm Pre targets a wide range of users including feature phone users and the the consumer market.

It is also important to note that the majority of iPhone users were not Smartphone users before they converted to Apple's hit device. The excitement surrounding the Palm Pre indicates that it will convert its share of feature phone users.
