VERIZON WIRELESS TO INCREASE EARLY TERMINATION FEE FOR ADVANCED DEVICES

Here's an interesting update for consumers who want to purchase premiere Verizon Wireless cellphones. The carrier is planning to increase the early termination fee for certain devices starting on November 15. Jeffrey Nelson, a Verizon Wireless spokesperson, explained this plan to the folks at Phonescoop: "We are raising the ETF for contracts associated with the purchase of an advanced device (i.e., smartphones, PDAs, netbooks) at a reduced price. This change only applies to new contracts beginning Nov. 15, and only when the customer ends service before the term is up. The ETF will be $350 and will decline by $10 a month. Our ETF for all other devices remains at $175." It appears that this significant change in the Verizon Wireless early termination fee is a plan to deter some shady consumers from taking advantage of the older ETF by selling premier phones on online auction sites. The carrier did not specify the products that will be included in this increased Verizon Wireless early termination fee for premiere devices. The recently launched Motorola Droid is expected to be part of this ETF increase. |
