1.6 MILLION NEW IPHONE 3G'S ACTIVATED IN AMERICA IN 1Q 2009

AT&T announced its first-quarter financial results today, showing a 9.8% increase in wireless revenue, which now makes up 42.1% of AT&T's total revenue—that itself an increase from 38.5% same time last year. And wouldn't you know it, the iPhone 3G appears to be paving the way for the growth in the wireless sector.

1.6 million new iPhone 3G's were activated this past quarter, with more than 40% being new members of the AT&T family. Also important to note once again is why the iPhone is such a profitable device for AT&T:

AT&T's U.S. iPhone exclusive continues to deliver subscribers with ARPUs (average monthly revenues per subscriber) that are approximately 1.6 times higher and churn rates that are significantly lower than the company's overall postpaid subscriber base.

Translation: the iPhone makes AT&T way more money than any other device, the iPhone users are much more loyal than most.

Now, this is a drop from 4Q 2008 which saw 1.9 activations, and even 3Q 2008 where 2.4 million iPhone 3G's sprang to life.

Since just about everyone "knows without knowing", if you will, that a new or at least updated iPhone is just around the corner, AT&T can hang sit back and relax, at least until maybe 2011.

The number of iphone...

The number of iphone user is increasing day by day and apple provides more and more function for iphone users. Also important to note once again is why the iPhone is such a profitable device.
