9 YEAR OLD WRITES IPHONE APPLICATION

Fractions and the solar system aren't the only topics 4th graders are learning these days...nine year old Lim Ding Wen from Singapore has learned how to write iPhone applications.  That's right!  While most kids his age are coloring on paper, Lim has created a program called Doodle Kids, where users can paint with their fingers.  The screen is then cleared using the accelerometer feature with a simple shake of the device.  Reuters reports the application has been downloaded over 4,000 times from Apple's App store in only two weeks time.

Lim writes programs in five other languages and has finished nearly 20 different software applications.  His love for programming is due in part to his father, Lim Thye Chean, who is a chief technology officer at a technology firm.  Lim's father also writes iPhone applications and he states, "every evening we check the statistics emailed to us (by iTunes) to see who has more downloads."

Lim's next conquest is an iPhone application called "Invader Wars" that will be a science fiction game.

What are you teaching your children?
