ACER TO LAUNCH A GOOGLE ANDROID PHONE IN 2009?

Google's CEO announced that 2009 will be a good year for the Android platform partly because of the introduction of new handsets based on the open source OS. Samsung is expected to launch new Google phones this year and it appears that Acer will also unveil a handset based on the Android OS. According to Aymar de Lencquesaing, Acer’s head of mobile-phone products, it's likely that the company will launch a phone based on the Google Android OS in 2009.

Acer recently entered the Smartphone market by introducing four Windows Mobile handsets. Experts were unsure if Acer would be able to make an impact in a highly competitive market. However, Acer appears to be determined to be one of the top five handset vendors in the world by 2012. The company expectes to achieve this goal by selling 20 million to 25 million devices a year and by specializing in products that can more easily synch data between devices.
