ACER X960 WINDOWS MOBILE SMARTPHONE REVIEW

Back in March Acer (a Taiwanese manufacturerer), announced that it would be releasing a handfull of new smartphones, including the Acer X960. The X960 is moderately sized at 4.2 in. x 2.3 in. x .6 in., and the front features a 2.8 in. resistive touch screen, which means that the screen is composed of multiple layers that are separated by thin spaces (and, unfortunately, requires more pressure to activate than a capacitive screen). The screen is capable of displaying 65,000 colours at 640 x 480 pixel resolution. Users might have to work a tad harder to see the display in the sunlight, as there is a reflective covering on the display.

Above the phone's display is the ear piece, a camera, a light sensor, and several colored notification LED's. Beneath the display are the typical call/sen/end keys, as well as a home key, a GPS key, and a circular chrome d-pad. A chrome band running along the outside of the X960 holds a volume rocker, lanyard fixing, camera shutter button, covered microSD slot, and power button on the right. The bottom of the device houses the microphone hole, a mini-USB port for charging, and a few other things. The back of the phone houses the X960's 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash and self portrait mirror.

As far as audio quality and durability of the Acer X960 goes, the 1530MAh battery only lasts about 1-2 days., which could use some improvement. Reception is average, with the HSDPA signal doing its job. As far as smartphones go, the Acer X960 may not be the best, but it is certainly nothing to balk at.
