APPLE RECOMMENDS IDEAL TEMPERATURE RANGE FOR THE IPHONE 3G AND IPHONE 3GS

Reports regarding overheating iPhones have surfaced recently and Apple has responded by issuing a support document that advises users to use and store the iPhone in the recommended temperature range. The iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS should be used at temperatures between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). The high-end smartphones should be stored at temperatures between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F).

Apple warned that low or high-temperature conditions might temporarily shorten the battery life or cause the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS to temporarily stop working properly.Using the iPhone in temperatures over 95 degrees may also keep device from charging, dim the display dimsa and weaken the cellular signal.

A temperature warning screen will appear if the interior temperature of the device exceeds normal operating temperatures. This will lock up the device until it cools down. However, users will still be able to use the iPhone for emergency calls.

Users are advised to turn the iPhone off, move it to a cooler environment, and allow it to cool before resuming use, when the temperature warning appears.

Here are the conditions and activities that may activate the Temperature warning message on the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS:

  • Leaving the device in a car on a hot day.
  • Leaving it in direct sunlight for extended amounts of time.
  • Using certain applications in hot conditions or direct sunlight for long periods of time
