APPLE'S THIRD-GENERATION IPHONE TO START SHIPPING IN MAY?

It appears that Apple is getting ready to launch the third-generation iPhone for a show down with the upcoming Palm Pre. According to the folks at UnwiredView, Taiwan assembly suppliers will start to ship brand new third-generation iPhones in May.

Apparently, Apple has ordered new iPhone components from TSCM (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) including GSM/EDGE power amplifiers, 3.2 Megapixel OmniVision CMOS image sensors and Bluetooth ICs (integrated circuits).

Reports from Taiwan also indicate that TSCM subsidiaries Xintec and VisEra will “handle the packaging and testing service” and respectively “manufacture on-chip color filters” for its CMOS image sensor.

Are you ready for an iPhone with a 3.2 megapixel camera? Let's hope that these reports are real indicators of a mid-2009 launch for the third-generation iPhone.
