BE AWARE: THE G1 REALLY IS ALWAYS CONNECTED
Submitted by Noe on Wed, 12/03/2008 - 12:26.![]() Should you be a T-Mobile G1 owner and plan to go overseas anytime soon, you might want to take note of one T-Mobile customer's brush with reality. Prior to traveling to the UK the gentleman switched off both data sync & 3G on his G1 and brought it with him overseas. Once he got his bill there was a whopping $102.85 data roaming bill. He navigated his way through layers of customers service reps before he had it confirmed by a supervisor: the G1 always accesses the internet by default, even when the settings are switched off. The G1 apparently still searches for incoming text messages and calls. To quote the cold steely truth from the T-Mobile supervisor, "the [G1] should have been left in the USA." I know the G1 is popular, especially on this site, so be careful. Still though, ouch. |

I'm getting the G2...
I'm getting the G2 any day now, and i travel to belgium every other week. I'm very concerned about this, as accessing the internet there costs about €12 per 200kb (sick right?) and i'm definitly not prepared to just leave my phone at home, what's the purpose of it that way..
Do you know if you _can_ turn it off completely on the G2?
