Clearwire

Clearwire revealed in its latest quarterly earnings report that the company expects to launch mobile WiMax networks in Atlanta, Las Vegas, Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Honolulu, Philadelphia and Seattle by the end of 2009. Clearwire also expects to release close to 100 WiMax devices by the time thiese mobile WiMax roll-outs are complete.

The mobile WiMax devices will include modems, PDAs/handhelds, netbooks, and laptops. Clearwire also plans to launch a dual-mode 3G/4G modem that can roam between cellular networks and WiMax networks.

Clearwire also indicated the company's desire to launch mobile WiMax in major markets like New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., Houston and San Francisco next year.

Some experts say that Nokia decided to choose LTE over Wimax because of the slow roll out of the US WiMAX network. Clearwire needs to hustle if it intends to compete with LTE.
