DELL LOOKS TO HAVE SMARTPHONES OUT BY END OF THE YEAR

Looks like Michael Dell can't keep his hands out of the telecommunications piggy bank, as Dell is apparently gearing up to release several smartphones in the US by the end of the year. More information after the jump.

At an industry analyst conference recently, Ronald Garriques, president of Dell's consumer products division, revealed that the company would "work with the top three to four" telcos and "see what their needs are." Earlier this year, the Wall Street Journal confirmed that Dell was, in fact, working on smartphones--Android-based smartphones.

In a world where there are already gaggles of different smartphones neatly arranged over the current array of carriers, a new entry in the field is not necessarily necessary. It would be almost ludicrous for Dell to get into this business at the moment if it were not for the fact that Dell's designers have been pumping out some really nice-looking stuff lately. We'll see how this plays out later this year.
