PREPAID METROPCS BEATING OUT SPRINT IN GROWTH
Submitted by andy on Sun, 04/12/2009 - 23:10.Bookmark/Search this post with: Prepaid carrier MetroPCS has been growing at an astounding rate. It has surpassed Sprint's subscriber added in first quarter of this year. Metro PCS had added 684,000 subscribers. The wall street has taken notice, and so has the wall street journal with this article covering the prepaid carrier's performace.
The wireless industry has been doing well despite the downturn in economy. Earlier RIM, the parent company of blackberry wireless devices also posted better than expected results. It should be noted that some of the growth of MetroPCS can be attributed to its entry into two new big markets: New York and Boston. I believe that in 2009 the growth will be seen in the prepaid services, such as Kricket, Boost and MetroPCS (also Virgin Mobile) and smarphones. MetroPCS and the other prepaid offer unlimited data and voice plans at half of those prices of the traditional wireless carriers such as Sprint, ATT, T-mobile and Verizon. The big boys advantage is in the blackbuster devices and expansion into 4G networks. However at these prices and no-hasstle contracts the prepaid offer is extremly appealing. Stay tuned for more prepaid coverage here. We will look at the devices the prepaid are offering and how they stack up against the big boys and keep you up to date on more prepaid happenings.

Prepaid is here to stay!
The worsened economy has only accelerated people's attention on the advantage of prepaid...IMHO. Contract plans only make sense in terms of getting a hefty handset subsidy, otherwise, with all of the prepaid options available now, postpaid makes no sense at all.
