RIM AND VERIZON’S NIAGARA PROJECT

It has been rumored that RIM and Verizon has teamed up for a project codenamed "Niagara".  Verizon, which has been distributing their services with previous Blackberry phones, is now preparing its way for the birth of the latest addition to the BlackBerry family.  It has been rumored that the latest BlackBerry is going to land on the Verizon business in May.

The Niagara is somewhat a combination of designs of three BlackBerry phones.  BlackBerry 9630, which is the rumored model number is similar but is going to be slimmer than the BlackBerry 8900 or the Curve.

The design of the keyboard is adopted from the BlackBerry 9000 or the famous BlackBerry Bold.  It will also be world phone like the BlackBery Storm.  World Phone, from the world itself, is going to be compatible and will operate on EVolution-Data Only (EVDO) Verizon network and GSM systems in Europe.

The EVDO technology is a fast or high-speed 3g data service that Verizon and other wireless carrier offer.

The Niagara is also believed to have two versions, one that has a 3.2 megapixel camera and a version that does not have a camera.  The reason for making a version without a camera is for users who are in high-security industries.

With this rumor lurking around the technical world of gadgets, it has brought excitement for everyone who is into new mobile phones.  If everything goes well with the project, it would be of benefit for Verizon because competitors like Apple and Palm are going to announce the launching of a new version of IPhone and Pre phone respectively.

Niagara is going to take over the BlackBerry Curve on Verizon Wireless.  With just few enhancements going on for the Niagara, it is assured that the market for smartphones will continue to rise.
