SPRINT READY TO OFFER THE FIRST 3G FEMTOCELL IN THE US

AT&T recently announced their plan of a full national launch of the 3G femtocell solution by the end of 2009. However, it appears that Sprint will attempt to be the first to offer full commercial service of a 3G femtocell solution. The company also hinted about offering consumer and enterprise femtocell solutions.

Here's a statement by Mathew Oommen, Sprint's VP of device and technology development:

Just like Sprint was the first with 2G, we’ll definitely be the first in the 3G space as well. We’re not talking about trials; we’re talking about full commercial service.

Unfortunately, Oommen did not offer a lot of details on the upcoming Sprint femtocell solution. The release date, hardware supplier, and pricing scheme for the Sprint femtocell solution are still unknown.
