Looking for a way to help the environment but can’t possibly figure out where to begin? Well, why not start with your cell phone? The new Motorola W233 Renew is the first certified carbon free cell phone on the market. Through an alliance with carbonfund.org, Motorola diligently works to offset the amount of energy that is required to manufacture, distribute and operate the phone. In addition, the W233’s sleek and small design has been fashioned entirely out of recycled water bottles, meaning 20 percent less energy is needed to create the phone compared to standard plastic processes. The Moto W233 Renew’s cardboard packaging is also made from 100 percent recycled material, and was printed using only vegetable based inks—simply toss the packaging into the recycling bin and you’re good to go. And, instead of storing your old phone on the back shelf of your closet never to be seen again, return it for recycling using the in-box, postage-paid envelope provided to you with the purchase of your Moto Renew. While the Renew’s environmental intentions are good, what about the phone’s performance? While a carbonfree phone is great in theory, will it actually keep working after it’s been battered, bruised and reused (over, and over, and over again?) Luckily it seems that this compact lime green beauty, despite being made out of plastic, is sturdy and seemingly powerful. With up to nine hours of talk time (using CrystalTalk technology to amplify your conversation and reduce background noise), the Renew promises that you can talk more, charge less, and reduce your energy usage. So, while the Moto W233 Renew might not be he most technologically savvy phone (it has a low resolution and the brightness can’t be changed), it’s still a good-looking, easy-to-use, eco-friendly advocate. |
