T-MOBILE ROUNDUP: UNLIMITED CALLING, 3G USB MODEM

There's been some interesting news brewing with T-Mobile the past few days that's more significant than is getting played up.

  1. T-Mobile is offering existing customers $50 unlimited calling
  2. T-Mobile to launch its webConnect USB modem March 25th?

The $50 unlimited talking service is being offered in San Francisco at the moment, and here's hoping it rills out nationwide soon. It should certainly give the other carriers a run for their money, as T-Mobile continues to be the value leader as far as basic service goes. On the downside it looks like they're trying to make this a "sweeten the deal" kind of situation is you'll have to have been a customer in good standing for 22 months in order to get it, which doesn't really make a lot of sense to me. Although you figure if your 2-year is about to expire and you're happy enough with your phone you can just add the unlimited talk and ride that out for as long as you like and leave at any time sans an ETF.

I'm sure we're all saying a collective, "'BOUT TIME!" about the USB modem, but I guess it was a given as T-Mobile's 3G network goes live in more cities and coverage generally improves. Rumors have the service going for $59.99 a month, which is standard fare as far as USB modems go, as is the 5GB monthly data cap. This might not be offered to new customers, and don't be surprised if this is only for people with an existing T-Mobile contract of some kind.
