TOTALLY FREE PC TO PHONE CALLING COMING VIA SKYPE AND NOKIA

The Nokia N97 phone will be the first phone to offer skype preinstalled on its phones.  Skype is trying to announce more deals like this at the GSMA World Congress 2009 in Barcelona.  The Skype press release states:

Skype and Nokia today announced a partnership that will bring the world's leading Internet communications experience to the Nokia range of mobile computers. Under the terms of the cooperation, Skype™ will be integrated into Nokia devices, starting with the Nokia Nseries. The Nokia N97 flagship device will be the first to incorporate the Skype experience in the 3rd quarter of 2009.

This should open up more free phone to pc calling or ps to phone calling to consumers.

As an interesting aside, the press release calls the nokia devices mobile computers, which is a differentiation we mused on in a previous post here at 611.

 Finally, don't hold your breath if you are in the US and expect to have one of the carriers allow this application on your device - it's pretty likely that it won't happen as it would essentially be an application wich takes away the bread and butter of the revenue genearation.  See this Cnet article for more info.
