WINDOWS ON YOUR BLACKBERRY?
Submitted by andy on Sat, 09/13/2008 - 18:10.Bookmark/Search this post with: When I first read this story in my local business section, I was a bit alarmed. I love my crackberry and I have been using one since the good ol' black and white days. On the other hand, I am not a huge fan of the Windows operating system, since Windows 3.1. But lets get to the point: Microsoft Mobile is NOT taking over the Blackberry operating system (whew!). It appears that Microsoft is trying to capture a bigger share of the search engine market, particularly mobile search. So its the battle of the search engines on the wireless device. Unfortunatly the carriers are NOT allowing users select their prefered search engine. Instead, they are locking down their default choices by striking exclusive deals with Yahoo, Google, and Microsoft. It's a pity that carriers still operate as a monopoloy. Is it because executives running these compainies were in business when ATT was a monopoly? Maybe another blog post on that subject. But here is the deal - by striking these deals they are not providing their users with a choice, but rather locking them down to a particular search engine. They are not allowing their customers and users to make their own search engine choices. |

Search Engine Choices.
I have a Blackberry and I frequently use different mobile search engines. Of course, since I am a T-Mobile user, when I go to my default homepage, I'm encouraged to use T-Mobile's default search engine, but that has not prevented me from surfing to an alternative search engine sites. I have also downloaded special search applications from Yahoo! and Google. So, for me, I still feel I have the freedom to use any search engine. Perhaps that's because I am a power user. Nevertheless, I certainly would be concerned if my carrier started to limit my search engine options. Thanks for the post.
