"PRIVATE" GOOGLE VOICE VOICEMAILS APPEAR IN GOOGLE SEARCHES

Smile!....you're on....Google Search? Yes, that's right, it appears as though seemingly "private" voicemails recorded and transcribed into text by Google Voice have shown up in a public Google search, an apparent leak that could put scrutiny on Google's new voice service.

If you conduct a simple Google search, an apparent 31 messages with playable sound footage, text transcription, and contact information that includes names and telephone numbers is readily available for public viewing. Uh-Oh! hope you didn't say anything too dangerous in that last message to your buddy.

While Google Voice does offer the option to allow users to post voicemail messages publicly, the material found in the search contains content seems like it was meant to be private, such as voicemails about appointment scheduling and a message left by a woman detailing a recent appointment with a doctor.

Last week, the FCC announced that it would probe the service in order to investigate Google's practice of call blocking to rural carriers. Google Voice blocks those calls to save money on fees associated with rural telephone exchanges. Questions remain how today's reported leak could affect the investigation.
