Do yourself a favor and get your grandparents initiated into the world of technology. They don't have to have a Blackberry Tour or a Motorola Droid. Nearly every carrier offers cell phones that are specifically designed with ease of use in mind for the elderly.
Jitterbug The Jitterbug phone line was listed on the New York Times Top 10 Brilliant Ideas of 2006 list, and here's why: it is the first phone line designed from the ground up for the elderly. The buttons are big, the speaker is loud, and there is a 24/7 customer service representative that will greet the user by name and help them in any way possible. Jitterbug is an MVNO to Verizon Wireless (just like Amp'd Mobile was a few years ago), so your loved ones will be on the most widespread phone network in the country. The phone even fakes a dial tone in order to emulate the behaviors of a normal landline phone. Its only downfall is that the phones and service are slightly more expensive than other prepaid phone plans, though you do get quite a bit for your money
ClarityLife C900 This unlocked GSM phone will work with any T-Mobile or AT&T contracts, and features twice the volume of most cell phones. The buttons are large and easy to press--just like the Jitterbug. Unfortunately, the sliding design might be a bit confusing to use, and they do not provide an operator service like Jitterbug's. The phone also costs roughly twice as much as the Jitterbug, though does not come with a contract.
Doro 330 HandleEasy Though this mobile phone for seniors is small, its keypad is enormous, and roughly 60 percent of the screen real estate is taken up by entered digits. To top that off, the phone has an amplified speaker, an LED torch, and a personal alarm that can be set off in case of an emergency. Priced at $179 unlocked on any GSM network, this mobile phone for seniors is slightly more expensive than the Jitterbug, but pretty closeley related in its featureset.
Samsung C3060R Samsung's phone for Grandpa is not necessarily a new device. The C3060R looks like most other low-end candybar phones out there. What has changed is the phone's interface. Everything has more contrast, and vital information is presented in bigger and more readable text. The buttons on the keypad are slightly larger than normal with bigger numeric text to boot, but everything still looks a little cramped. Like the other unlocked devices, it works on any domestic GSM network with a SIM card. For more information, check out Cell Phones for Seniors. |

phones for senior citizens
More and more of these are being designed. We have mentioned phones such as the Jitterbug, Doro and Just5 and the Clarity C900...
All feature big buttons, large screens, easy to read screens, 900 emergency 'panic' buttons and in many instances voice-confirmation when pushing a button.
All are unique features for senior-friendly cell phones.
SVC
Have you covered Trackphone's svc, senior phone? Very simple; crude, really. Inexpensive and dead easy to use. Much better than this jittery phone.
$20 to purchase and another #$20 evey 3 months to use. Very few features but to talk and text it is ideal.
SVC
Despite its advertising Jitterbug doesn't make its case well on the issue of price. The SVC device is so simple and low priced that it seems to be a better choice for elderly who are generally not into techy devices. Plus, the TracFone brand is well known for its prepaid service.
For me the jitterbug...
For me the jitterbug range has no equal. So many features that are suited for seniors, as well as a decent choice. 5 stars all the way.
Ideal Phone for Senior Citizen
The network provider should have a regular phone operator with access to their individual database phonebook to assist them during making a call. The cost of service is higher but the convenience and success call is worthy.
svc
The Svc also has 911 emergency location assist which has taken a load off my mind as my Mom is getting quite frail and now I know she's a call away from help! It uses Tracfone airtime so she can call her sister overseas at least twice a week at the same price as a local call and the double minute plan makes it even cheaper.
SVC
yeah ive gotta agree with you. I thin kthe svc is the best choice from tracfone. i got it for my husbands mother and i am thinking about getting it for my parents as well. They just dont really understsand phones that well but if my mother in law could get it.. then im sure they could!! hahah Plus i mean with these prices.. how coudl you go wrong.
My vote is for TracFone
Since I'm not much of a phone person, TracFone has always been my cell of choice. Now, even my grandma is going to get one for Christmas next week. She needs the phone less than I do but definiely is about time she gets one so we can know where she is at all time! The phone we are getting her has large key pad and is super basic so it'll be perfect!
Samsung C3060R
I recently struggled getting an elderly friend of mine a decent cell, but after a bit of researching went with the samsung. Well worth it!
Texting
My mom is hard of hearing and does not have a computer (so no email). Looking for an easy-to-use cell phone with a large button QWERTY keyboard and easy to see screen so I can teach her to text. Any phones like this available?
I've gotta go along...
I've gotta go along with some of you guys up there. The tracfone svc phone has been really great with my grandfather. He was soooo anti cellphone and was never interested in learning how to use one. When I explained to hi out it was designed for people just like him and I told him the cheap price of seven bucks a month!! Of course he went for it. OR at least he said he would try. Now two months in... he is super happy and so am i! got it at meijers.
A Cell Phone With Large Buttons And Big Heart
Just5 phone is a cell phone designed to bring an enhanced communication lifestyle to the elderly, disabled and technophobes. Just5 works as an effective emergency response device as well to secure the safety of the user. Just5 guarantees high quality at an inexpensive cost. The phone does not come with a contract, too.
Any interested American can become a dealer of this phone.
EASY SIMPLE senior phone
I need a simple affordable phone for a senior friend in
a nursing home. She has problems with a regular cell phone.
What can you offer? Large buttons? Simple to operate?
No contract in case she does not like it? Reasonable price
for the phone?
Can you help???
-Edie
Big button cell phone
The Snapfon has great big buttons and keys, and the display is very easy to read if your looking for ease of use. The keys actually speak when you push a button too, even in Spanish. The Snapfon comes with the SOS button on the back for emergency use. They have rate plans also that are only $10 a month and an Unlimited one for $39.95, which is amazing this time and age. Check them out
TracFone T155G for seniors
The phones listed here are nice but a little pricey for me. I think for most seniors, a basic phone with some minutes will do. I recommend the T-155G from TracFone. It only costs $15 and $7 a month - a hard to beat deal plus reliable service at that. The phone is light but durable, super user friendly with large and lighted key pad plus hearing impaired capable.
TracFone's New SVC phone TOPS
TracFone's just come out with an incredible phone/plan for seniors. It's the Samsung T155 and it finally has LARGE NUMBERS - on the screen and on the key pad. But that's not it - the cost is incredible. The phone costs only $14 and the plan is just $7, which is pretty good considering I only use the phone for emergencies. TracFone's reliability is what sets them apart. Now this phone, and the fact that it's specially designed for people of certain "maturity", really makes them the leader of the pack.
YES YS YES
I got this svc ( senior value cellphone ) for my grandmother! She absolutely loves it. I was so worried now that she moved away that if there was an emergency she wouldn't be able to contact me. She lives alone so now with this phone that she actually wears around her neck... I am always in contact with her. It took her a day to learn the phone because the numbers and large screen are very helpful. The service is great and its only seven dollars a month. I highly suggest it.
SVC
Yes! JUst discovered it last well. Amazing value and terrific coverage. Plus. it's easy to read and has BIG NUMBERS! LOL!
Cell Phones for Seniors
I think for seniors, who are often technology-averse, cell phones must be basic and very user friendly (large key pads, big screen, etc.). We bought my grandfather a basic model Tracfone, pay for his monthly usage which turns out less than $10 a month. Such a small fee to pay for a grat peace of mind - totally worth it!
Jitterbug cell phones for senior citizens
My senior mom has the Jitterbug and loves it! She and I consider it the best of the cell phones for senior citizens. It's easy to use, hard to make an accidental phone call thanks to being a flip phone, and she can easily take it where ever she goes, giving her an emergency contact and me some great peace of mind.
NET10 for MOM
I actually bought my mom (84) an LG300G fron NET 10 for $29 and so far it's been great. The phone has no bells or whistles, just a regular key pad that won't confuse her. I buy her the minutes as well, for about $15 a month. Calls are .10 cents a minute and texting is 3 cents each (which she doesn't really use). She uses about 150 minutes a month for the $15, which is perfect cause she only uses the phone to keep me posted or for emergencies. Anything more than this would be a waste of money for her.
Just5 Phone
There is another phone for the elderly that is very simple to use with attractive colors. It's the Just5 phone. You can take a look at their phones at www.Just5.com
What makes their phones great are the large buttons that you can find on the phone. The large buttons have bold numbers that the elderly can clearly see. In fact, the features of the phone were all made to cater to the needs of senior citizens.
The ringing sound is really loud, enabling seniors to hear it immediately. It has an “SOS” button at the back that is set to dial and send message to 5 pre-programmed numbers, and it will not stop dialing until a number is answered, at the same time the phone would create a very loud sound to attract other people.
It is highly recommended for senior citizens!:)
