LG GLANCE REVIEW

LG is going Verizon-crazy lately, what with the new members of the enV family (the enV3 and the enV Touch), and now this new entry-level model, the LG Glance. Check out the review of the LG Glance after the jump.

First off, this phone is a cellular mullet: work in the front, and an awful, plastic party in the back. Seriously, the back of this phone looks like a failed Giorgio Armani prototype, with its gaudy, sparkly battery cover between some charcoal-grey plastic, a speakerphone, and a 1.3 megapixel camera. But the front, however, looks decent. The buttons are large and tactile, and for an entry-level phone, the QVGA (240 x 320) screen looks admirable. This phone is also amazingly thin (.3 inches, or 1 cm). A major difference, though, between this and other candy bars, happens to be the placement of the clear button. Note how it’s in the center, directly under the refreshing addition of a joystick.

Because this is an entry-level phone, there aren't as many fancy Verizon doo-dads to play with as on their higher-end LG phones, such as GPS(woopsie, according to commenter Nate, the phone DOES have GPS), 3G, or visual voicemail support. Luckily, though, this phone has a 1.3 megapixel camera (no flash), Bluetooth support, and the ability to add more memory via microSD and the misfortune of being stuck with measly built-in memory (thanks commenters!). Unfortunately, the software looks a bit sluggish (as is the case with most candy bar phones...or any non-smartphone in general), and the joystick's tactility looks to be questionable. But for its price and basic feature set, if you can just look into the phones eyes--and avoid its rear--there's a lot to like here.

The LG Glance went on sale on Verizon Wireless on June 5 for $49.99 after a $50.00 dollar rebate with a 2-year-contract.

Pros

  • Front of phone is quite pretty, and the profile is very thin
  • Joystick is a welcome refresher from a d-pad
  • Buttons are quite tactile and large
  • Reasonable feature set for the price

Cons

  • Back of phone looks disastrously ugly
  • Software is sluggish
  • No flash for camera
  • No 3G whatsoever (to be expected for price point)
  • 2.5mm headset jack, though no real multimedia features are present

OVERHEATING

My glance over heats ALL the time, it gets extremely hot to the point where it hurts to touch it. Verizon told me there is a bad connection in the phone so im getting one sent to me but i would like to know if this has happened to anyone else!

overheating glance phone

my phone is overheating also. verizon said i needed to replace the battery i did this and today my phone overheated again, and battery went from three charge bars to dead

More Overheating

Mine overheated in my pocket all the time and they sent me a new battery. No change. So they sent me a new phone and now it is overheating too. Why make a nice sleek phone if it can't go in my pocket?

Nice

I like it. The back like everyone says is ugly but so what you get a cover. I got one of those silicone ones and it looks great.

The LG Glance is...

The LG Glance is a skinny yet stylish basic camera phone with decent photo and call quality.

Key pad

Is anyone else noticing that the film on top of the keypad is peeling off? It could just be me...

Texting

Hey does anyone know how many text messages the inbox can hold before it gets full? Thanks!

yes, the battery case...

yes, the battery case is disgusting, so much so that i painted it black. it is very sleek now.

one more mistake...

You guys, I just had this phone in my hand, and it does not have a microSD slot, or any other way to add additional memory. Just FYI. Nice review!

You know what they say about assuming...

...it makes an ass out of you and me. Sorry about that folks.

battery case

I like the case too. in fact...i love it. It makes the phone look classier than the usual black case on most other phones.

LG Glance battery cover

The LG Glance is a nice phone with the exception of the battery cover. I bought the phone online and I saw the cover, but I didn't expect to be that ugly. I will continue to look online for a different cover, otherwise I will probably return the phone.

LGGlance Review

I just picked this phone up on 6-8-2009. In regaurds to JBlock comment on not having GPS, it does.

He is right about the back being ugly, the shiny metalic cover isnt well attached either. I think LG has a wonderfull reputation on putting out quality products so i will see if their reputaion holds.

For the exception of the battery pack cover, the phone feels solid and looks like a good product.

The biggest con i have, there is no casing on the market right now (6-9-09), I am not a fan of the fellows wright screen protect, and the casing LG sells is a holster. I can for see my self scratching up this phone by accident, and there is nothing i can do to prevent it.

Correction

Nate, I have fixed up the article to make up for my boo-boo. Thanks for the heads-up.

glance

I happen to think the back of the phone looks good. It looks pimp and adds fun.

Casing

There is a casing that is made for the phone, comes in white, pink, and black. I got the black case- it is just like the ones sold for blackberry- rubber. The phone now looks like a chocolate bar with buttons, however i will still buy a new battery case as soon as it is available
