WINDOWS MOBILE MARKETPLACE TO HAVE REMOTE KILLSWITCH FOR ITS APPS

According to Tech.Ed New Zealand, the Windows Mobile Marketplace will feature some naughty rules for its developers. See what they are after the jump. In the same way that Palm handles their app store, Window Moabile Marketplace apps will feature a remote killswitch, in which Microsoft can kill an application on any handset on the planet if the app is for some reason rejected after it has been sold. This means that no one will let you keep your copy of the baby shaker app even after the entire universe has deemed it morally abhorrent and pitiful. Developers also have to pay $99 dollars for five app slots, and $99 for any more. What does this mean for the end user? Well, if you are like me and despise the concept of Windows Mobile in the first place, then you have all the more reason to hate the platform. But if you are an active WinMo user and you can't wait for apps, know that Microsoft will have a good year to observe the behaviors, mistakes, and pitfalls of the Apple app store, and should have a pretty locked-down, secure way to obtain apps.
