I've dropped my phone more times than I can count...and I know you've done the same. But what happens when you crack the glass? The crack gets bigger and bigger over time. Most cell phone users have insurance, or perhaps a backup phone. If you forgot to purchase insurance, or just stopped paying those payments, don't fret...learn how to replace your glass in the following steps.

Instructions Difficulty: Challenging

Things You'll Need:

  • replacement glass
  • torx screwdriver
  • tiny screwdriver
  • orangewood stick
  • hair dryer
  • double sided tape
  • 4 binder clips

1
remove the two screws from the bottom of the iPhone

2
Use orangewood stick to carefully lift out display while disconnecting the ribbon cables (remember which ribbon cable connects where) from the circuit board

3
remove screws that connect LCD panel and glass

4
the glass is glued to the frame...apply heat from hair dryer to separate glass from frame being careful not to bend or warp frame.

5
place double sided tape where there was once glue on the frame

6
place glass screen on top of frame and clamp corners with binder clips for at least 24 hours

7
once glass and frame seem tightly sealed...screw the LCD panel back on

8
reconnect ribbon cables

9
snap the two pieces back together and screw in the torx screws on the bottom of the phone...and your phone should be as good as new!

Tips & Warnings
  • places to purchase replacement glass: iFixIt, iTech Electronics, Ebay
  • the double sided tape will not hold as strong as the glue once did...be gentle
