open the keyboard of your android g1 htc device2
locate the small tab oposite the 'Q' key of the keyboard3
Pull this back cover tab away from the keyboard and down. The back cover may stick a little, but once the tab is pulled out slightly there doesnt seem a way to break it. Gently pull the back cover off. There isnt another latch or lock, just pull the cover off.4
You can now replace the battery and sim card of the device
