Thank you for these instructions which I followed. Trying to logon on to gmail via the Google email uploader in order to upload my contacts from Outlook that is on my computer to finally get to my G1 phone.
I get a pop box saying:
Your account is not allowed to upload email. You must login to gmail for your domain before you can use this feature. Also, you domain administrator may need to enable email migration for your domain.
Did I miss something? Granted I could save my contacts as a CSV file and upload that to my gmail account, but how do I get it to my G1 phone from there.
Hopefully you can help me.
Thanks, Nadine

I get the same message, too. Of course Motorola is closed for the weekend and Verizon has no clue on how to fix - so far. Anyone else had any luck with this error message?

Aha! Don't try any of the stuff above. Go to Outlook and Export your contacts as csv file. Then log into your gmail account, go to Contacts on the left side of the page and look for box that says Import. Browse to you csv file and import. It takes very little time - less than 5 minutes for 3000 contacts. Then, go to Settings on your phone where you should already have set up your gmail account. Click on Sync Contacts and in less than 3 minutes (for 3000 contacts) your phone will be loaded up with all your contacts. I don't know how to do this automatically yet but this manual sync is easy and quick.
this is absolutely true! Importing contacts is much easier using the cvs method.
However, if you want to truly import your contacts and calendar entries, you should use the importer using the instructions above.

For this to work correctly you need to enable POP3 access on your GMail account under settings.

@ Nadine & others. The Google Uploader Tool does not work in conjunction with standard Gmail accounts. It must be a business or educational "Google Apps" Domain account. (ie: not an email @gmail.com)
