How to use your cell phone to send a standard SMS text as an email message. If your phone already has the option to add an email address to the list of recipients, then just use that option instead. If you need to send an email from a phone without that feature, read on. |
| Instructions | Difficulty: Moderately Easy |
Things You'll Need:
- To know your carrier, your cell phone.
1
Find your carrier on the list below. This dictates what number to send the message to, as well as how to format it:| Carrier | SMS to Email Number | Text Format |
| AT&T | 111 or 121 | emailaddress (subject) body |
| AT&T Mobility | 36245 | emailaddress (subject) body |
| Cricket | 6245 | emailaddress body |
| Sprint | emailaddress | body |
| T-Mobile | 500 | <emailaddress> / subject / body |
| Verizon | emailaddress | body |
2
Write a text message just like you normally would, according to the format above. For instance, say your carrier is AT&T. You can send a message to “sample@email.com” by typing the body of your text message as “sample@email.com (lemonade) Don’t forget to make lemonade for dinner”, and then sending that text to “111”.3
If your carrier is not listed, you can also try this list here (under “Carrier-provided SMS to email gateways), or look on the website of your carrier.4
While sending an SMS message from an email phone is worthy of a separate article, an email sent from a cell phone in the above manner can usually be “Reply”’d to without any difficulty.
