![]() Google Voice Logo | Google Voice is Google's newest webapp that aims to consolidate all of your miscellaneous phone numbers into one, convenient web-app. Once of its crown jewels is its ability to consolidate your voicemails into a single inbox, along with allowing them to be visible online as a recording and a written transcript. Today I'm going to show you how to enable this feature with any cell phone. |
| Instructions | Difficulty: Moderately Easy |
Things You'll Need:
- Cell Phone
- Google Voice account
1
Log onto your Google Voice account2
In the top-right corner of the screen, click on the button that says "settings"3
The "Phones" tab should be selected right now. If you haven't set up a link with any of your home or mobile phones, do that right now by clicking "add another phone." If you've done that, hit the "edit" button next to the phone whose voicemail you want to forward.4
Click the link that says "Show advanced settings" to expand this phone's settings menu.5
Next to the words "Forwarding Options," click on the link that says "activate." This will bring up a dialog box that will provide instructions for how to forward your voicemail from your current phone to Google Voice.
Tips & Warnings
- Although Google Voice is invite-only, it's very easy to get one. Simply search "Google Voice Invite" and you will likely find some avenue to get one within a week.
- Also, if you have an Android phone, the Google Voice app makes it very easy to integrate your mobile phone's voicemail service with your Google Voice account.
- This service will not work with prepaid T-Mobile phones, and although I have no tested it, they likely do not support other prepaid mobile phones. Thankfully, it's free to try, so there's no harm in finding out that your phone isn't supported.
