How To Replace A Blackberry Trackball

If you area BlackBerry user, then you probably know that the trackball is one of the firsts components that break down. However, you don't need to rush to your carrier to get your BlackBerry Smartphone replaced as soon as its trackball becomes faulty. You can easily save yourself time and money by simply replacing or cleaning your Blackberry trackball.

Instructions Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You'll Need:

  • Small screwdriver
  • Isopropyl/Rubbing alcohol
  • Blackberry trackball

Gently remove the plastic silver ring around the BlackBerry trackball by lifting the 3 tabs that hold it in place. Use a tiny tiny screwdriver to pry the tabs securing the silver ring.

Remove the inner ring that holding the trackball in place using the method. This may not be present in your BlackBerry depending on the model you own.

Gently remove the BlackBerry trackball after you have remove the ring or rings that's securing it to your device.

Check the BlackBerry trackball if dust and other debris has collected around it. Clean your BlackBerry trackball using Isopropyl/Rubbing alcohol. Perhaps getting rid of the dust and other particles around the trackball will restore it to perfect working condition.

If cleaning the trackball does not solve your problem then you might need to but a replacement. this is easily available online.

To reassemble the trackball component of your BlackBerry trackball component, you need to put in the cleaned or replacement trackball first.

Then you need to replace the white plastic lock or ring that keeps the trackball in place. Now this may be tricky because align it perfectly as there are small holes that the tabs go keep it secured.

After you have put the rings or lock in, try to check if your new or clean BlackBerry trackball is functioning properly.

 

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not lose any of the pieces of the trackball component. Use a small bowl or jar to hold the pieces that can easily be lost
  • Use care when removing the rings and the plastic piece on the trackball so that the clips or that hold them in place will not suffer any damage.

I have struggled with trackballs that get dirty and stop working. I find the easiest thing to do is to go on Amazon, buy a new track ball (they are cheap) and pop it in. Forget about the cleaning. It's a pain and it often doesn't work. Great article though. Just my 2 cents.
