The Samsung Galaxy S II for T-Mobile recently receives the green light to get the coveted software update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. consumers can also expect stability improvements with this update. Follow the steps below to get this major system update.

Things You'll Need:

  • Samsung Kies software application
  • USB cable

First download the Kies software to your Windows or Mac computer. use this url: http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/

After the download is complete, launch the installer and allow Kies to install on your system. If you are prompted to reboot the system, do so before proceeding.

You may see a pop-up prompt once Kies is up and running. Click Update to allow Kies to update itself to the latest version available.

Then read and accept the License Agreement by populating the I Agree check box and clicking Next

Then the program will start downloading component files. Once Kies has completed its update process it will close and relaunch itself.

Connect your Samsung Galaxy S II for T-Mobile to your PC or laptop using the supplied USB cable.

Then ensure that Kies recognizes your device by looking in the upper section of the left-bar navigation menu. Once Kies recognizes the device you will see a pop-up. Click Update

Read through the Caution pop-up and, if you agree, click to populate the I have read all of the above information checkbox

Read the Allow saving of information statement and select Allow saving or Proceed without saving and then click Start upgrade.

Kies will beging downloading firmware upgrade components from Samsung servers. This will take a few minutes depending on the speed of your Internet connection. After a few minutes, Kies will then begin transferring the firmware binary to the device

When the update process has completed, you will see the following pop-up window. After a few more seconds, the firmware upgrade will be completed. Click OK.

 

Tips & Warnings
  • Certain settings, such as wallpaper and ringtone assignments, may be reset back to factory default.
  • To be safe, always back up all data and assume that everything will be lost before installing a system update.
  • This update will not be made available over-the-air.
