The Apple iPhone 3G offers fast 3G connectivity, GPS mapping, support for enterprise features like Microsoft Exchange, and the new App Store. The Apple iPhone 3G combines three products in one, a phone with crystal clear calling, a widescreen iPod, and a revolutionary Internet device with rich HTML email and a desktop-class web browser. Consumers have 2 options when purchasing the handset. The 8GB model comes exclusively in black. The 16GB model offers the choice of either black or white. Once again, Apple has improved upon what was arguably the best phone ever built!

I have to say I had absolute faith in apple and was a huge fan of anything apple until I got an iphone. I lost my blackberry and decided to upgrade to an iphone 3G or better said downgrade...I was excited that the new model had just been released but to be honest I have been terribly disappointed. If you’ve never had anything but a cheap basic cell phone I’m sure you’ll see the iphone as a miracle, but if you actually use your phone for work and have given up your land line, it’s more of a toy than a phone. Let’s count the tears of my disappointment:
1) battery life on the iphone 3G...about half of a blackberry. This may not be the calculations they tell you but with equivalent heavy use between the two, the blackberry lasts at least 4-6 hours longer. The iphone the 3G is gonna go three hours if you are lucky in heavy use. But wait I read on apple’s website that is I turn off 3G and the GPS feature, and any other new upgrades that helps the battery life. That is true, but then what is the point of getting a new iphone.
2) no cut and paste. Just plain insulting. Apple has this technology and just plainly has too many excuses to not installing it. I never noticed how crucial it was until I ws left without this switching from the blackberry to the iphone 3G
3) Every text you get shows up on the screen of your phone for everyone to see. Are they kidding? Count the ways this could be trouble in business and your personal life.
4) Battery life again, Why go on, if you can’t even use your phone once it dies daily.
In conclusion. It is handsome and very functional and filled with cool amazing tricks and features. It is more appealing as a amazing stand in for your laptop that fits in your pocket, than a PDA or phone to actually use daily. It’s all perspective, I was just spoiled by Blackberry’s superior product, so the iphone 3G fell way short and just seems like a toy or an already uncool status symbol for upwardly mobile suburbanites and spoiled high school kids. Enjoy

The user interface is quicker than the older iPhone with the 2.0 upgrade, which is the main reason I upgraded. The earlier iPhone is struggling to stay up with the 2.0 software particularly when it came to displaying email and contacts (there was an obvious lag when returning to the home screen). 3G coverage is spotty, anyplace from 300-800k/b. GPS looks to be standard as most phones go. In my opinion, Ifind a phone GPS to be inconvenient as a call will interrupt crucial directions.
People seem to be complaining quite a bit about the plastic casing, but I find the phone much lighter and easier to manage with a much brighter and clearer screen. The previous Iphone with metal back, while more substantial, seems clunky and heavy to say the least. There are also complaints about the poor battery life. The 3G phone does MUCH more other than with a battery life of less than a day. I increase battery life by turning off 3G.
I doubt that an upgrade is worthwhile for current iPhone users, I think the new 3G is a good base for Apple to develop with software upgrades. Calendar and email applications are still subpar and lack the functionality of winmobile phones. MobileMe works well for the personal user.
Pros:
Lighter design, thinner feel
Quciker GUI
GPS Enabled, some good apps take advantage of GPS
Greatly improved call/sound quality
Cons:
Battery with 3G enabled is less than a day with average use as compared to 2 days with edge on previous phone.
Still no MMS, cut and paste or voice dial
Email capabilities still awkward
Bottomline, iPhone 3G is a recreational phone and will not be a good replacement for the business user.

iPhone 3g - Great usability, graphics and features., Monday, October 27, 2008 - 07:58I was a Nokia user for years until I was finally swept away in the iPhone mania and choosed to switch over. My sister and I desperately wanted the iPhone. We both got the 16gb models. Here are the combined results from both our point of views:
I used my phones extremely for business purposes. I’m on the phone a lot and always check my text messages and emails. She is a much more recreational user (internet, recreational apps games, and music) and less intense on the call side.
First, the overall design and look of the iPhone is sleek, trendy, modern and revolutionary. A true headturner mobile phone.
We both love the screen resolution and radiant color displays ? perfect, crisp, and astounding in every modes. The capability to rotate photos (and other applications such as word or spreadsheets) from portrait to landscape is just awesome. I love the expansion and contraction on the screen utilizing the much advertised finger pinch is great and very useful. It is very helpful especially looking at either photos or those cumbersome and small print emails or web pages.
I love the iPhone because of ease of use and magnificent display quality. I have no complaints as to downloads of web pages, music, data, or emails. Downloading was fairly quick.
The GPS function does work functionally as a dependable GPS system, except if you are driving, you?re must be careful or pull over to read the handheld actual directions and where to turn from the screen.
The downside of an iPhone is the TERRIBLE battery life. The iPhone drains its battery fast. With
I tested it by starting out my day at 7 am with a fully charged iPhone. Check my email with 12 items download. Briefly read all with a total time of 20 min. I made a 40 min call. Then, a 20 min call. I drove to work and after arriving, I responded to a text messages back and forth for three text sessions for about 5 min. It is now 10 AM and I have 20 battery remaining. In contrast, my sister utilizes her phone quite differently. Yes she makes calls, but she utilizes the internet, music, recreational apps a lot more than I do and she runs into the same problem.
The Apple must enhance the iPhone with a replaceable battery. The battery life is a biggest flaw for any serious users.
To sum up, I love this phone from a feature and functionality standpoint, but the battery life is absolutely horrendous.
