Nokia E71 is a slim and sexy phone that is capable of handling email, making calls and very useful to people who uses office applications a lot.
The Nokia E71 looks elegant and sexy with less than 1cm thick, Nokia well shows it as the slimmest qwerty keyboard smartphone. Nokia reveals a full QWERTY keyboard, and wonderfully it's among the very best I've used. Certainly for such a compact mobile phone, typing needs accuracy, so you'll find writing extensive emails frustrating.
The Nokia E71's screen is vibrant measuring 320 pixels across and 240 down. While some will complain about the lack of detail, its sharpness makes the whole thing from pictures to web sites look pleasing. It's also greatly evident even in direct sunlight which is an extra advantage.
Browsing the Internet is made all the more enjoyable by the addition of HDSPA support, and as the networks' coverage just stays on rising, you'll get used to bearing in mind the "3.5G" stamp at the top left of the screen.
Supposedly, this offers up to 3.6Mb/sec downloads, but in our informal speed test - downloading a 5MB PDF over Vodafone's 3.5G network - it took 90 seconds. Aside from the standard quad-band support, the E71 contains Bluetooth, infrared, and 802.11g WLAN. Infrared may sound old-fashioned, but it's still helpful if you require to quickly transmitting a file between the phone and a computer.
The Wi-Fi radio is easy to use and it spots all available networks and provides a list of access points to choose from. The Nokia E71 has a GPS receiver, a full-featured mapping software is integrated too, in the form of Nokia's latest Maps 2 offering. You can either look for for an address in its database or apply GPS to pinpoint you on the map, and with turn-by-turn driving directions an optional subscription-based upgrade. Plus, there's even the opportunity for in-car navigation.
Nokia will keep you posted on traffic information on a subscription basis.
The Nokia E71 speaker is both clear and loud, while our voice came through flawlessly the other end. It's also easy to adjust the volume with its up and down buttons. One neat feature of E71Â is the design of multiple modes. You can either set between Work mode and Home mode. You can customize your favorite wallpaper and application in E71 mobile home page. To switch between them is as simple as pressing the Switch icon that's on the home page by default.
It's easy to set up personal email accounts. Nokia's software supports all the major ISPs and webmail services.
You"ll find yourself more productive with Nokia E71 since it features Quickoffice 4 that includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint-style applications, and even though they don't have any advanced features they're largely compatible with their Microsoft. Other applications include calculator, currency converter and Adobe Reader.
It has a pleasant battery life holds up to 3 to 5 days for typical use or even used the device intensively.
That's surprisingly remarkable for such a thin phone, especially as it includes battery-draining technologies like GPS, 3G and WLAN. You can easily replace the 1,500mAh battery.
As for your entertainment needs, you can expand storage by 8GB via the microSD slot, the music player is very basic.
The 3.2-megapixel camera is average rather than dazzling image quality with maximum resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 means you can print out at A4 without horrible compromises.
It captures "okay" video with a maximum resolution of 320 x 240, they look great on the E71's screen rather on the PC.
Overall, Nokia E71 is a great phone with revolutionary capabilities and features.
The Nokia E71 is a slim and sexy phone that is capable of handling email, making calls and very useful to people who uses office applications a lot. Add the great battery life, and it's no surprise it succeeds a highly recommended A list smartphone.
